Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
