Web Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts around the world. While playing internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
