Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
